About Matthew C. Toal
Matthew C. Toal is an experienced attorney with a background in both legal practice and military service. From 2016 to 2024, Matthew served as Of Counsel to the Grievance Committee for the Ninth Judicial District, where he gained expertise in the field of attorney discipline. During his tenure, Matthew handled Grievance Committee complaints from investigation to disposition, prosecuted disciplinary proceedings, and monitored attorney reinstatements. Matthew believes that this experience has provided him with an understanding of the complexities involved in attorney discipline and has given him insight into how investigations are conducted and the potential issues that can arise.
In August 2024, Matthew transitioned from his role at the Grievance Committee to establish his own law office. Matthew now offers his services to attorneys and judges who find themselves the subject of investigations or proceedings by disciplinary authorities. Matthew also offers his services to students, ROTC/West Point Cadets, and other professionals who need representation before conduct boards.
Before embarking on his legal career, Matthew served as a Field Artillery officer in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Captain. His last duty station was at Fort Drum, New York, where he was assigned to the 1st Brigade Combat Team of the 10th Mountain Division. Matthew’s military service began through the ROTC program, and he served in the New York Army National Guard while attending Binghamton University and in the United States Army Reserve while studying law at Wake Forest University.
Matthew is a member of several bar associations, as well as the American Legion.
Matthew takes deep pride in his service, both in the military and in the legal profession, and believes that it reflects his dedication to upholding the highest standards of integrity and professionalism. He believes his experiences provide him with a well-rounded perspective that he brings to his law practice, where he is dedicated to serving his clients with the same level of commitment and excellence.
